Our friends at the Current will be premiering our recording of "Get Well Slim" on Sunday night, December 8 at 6 P.M. Tune in (89.3 on your FM dial here in the Twin Cities - or online with one of your digital gadgets if you prefer) for a listen! This song was written in honor of Bob "Slim" Dunlap and will be the first release in a series of musical tributes to him from Slim Town Singles, a site that benefits his ongoing care and recovery from a debilitating stroke. We had a blast getting together to record this with our old pal Tom Herbers at Creation...
Tripped across this relic from the very first version a Sycamores band bio on the internet, which somehow has survived multiple take-downs. Too much information, or a pleasant midnight ramble from Liquor Lyle’s to the C.C. Club with some old friends? You be the judge. As for that record we started in 2000, well, we spent a few years recording that one. Still needs a few finishing touches. Anyway, we'd love to hear your version of events if you were along for any part of this ride. And we'll catch up on the 2000's one of these years.
I move to the Twin Cities in Spring, at the suggestion...
The Sycamores recently returned to the studio to record an original song written in honor of the magnificent life force otherwise known as Bob “Slim” Dunlap. We hope to be able to share our musical get well card with Slim and his family soon. In the meantime, here is a sneak peek at the recording process, which was a joyful reunion for several of us that have known and played with Slim over the years. The Sycamores were joined by John Eller on piano and backing vocals, with Dave Boquist, Dave Biljan, Dave Downey and producer Tom Herbers rounding out the chorus.

Celebrating St. Slim, on St. Patrick's Day, in St. Paul.
The Sycamores have had the distinct pleasure of having Slim Dunlap drop in on our recording sessions over the years. He's also made room for us as his opening act many times. His musical generosity has known no bounds, his guiding hand always steady. Encouragement in massive doses. That's Slim. More recently, he's showing us the meaning of pure...
Our friend, mentor, collaborator, guitar hero, songwriter's songwriter, storyteller's storyteller, and all-around great guy Bob "Slim" Dunlap has recently suffered a major health set back: Bob had a stroke and is currently hospitalized. There are many signs of hope for him, however, and with the help of his amazing family - and many friends and fans - he is fighting to get back to good health.
If you're interested in following Bob's progress, offering words of support, hearing some great Slim Stories, or just witnessing the incredible outpouring of support from the community that knows and loves...
