Celebrating St. Slim, on St. Patrick’s Day, in St. Paul.
The Sycamores have had the distinct pleasure of having Slim Dunlap drop in on our recording sessions over the years. He’s also made room for us as his opening act many times. Survey the nearest Twin Cities musician you can find (surely there is one within arms reach) and they will undoubtedly join the chorus: Slim has provided us with unending friendship and support. His musical generosity has known no bounds, his guiding hand always steady. Encouragement in massive doses. That’s Slim. More recently, he’s showing us the meaning of pure courage. Thankfully, he’s making progress in his recovery, and Mad Ripple host Jim Walsh has organized a musical celebration of St. Slim – on St. Patrick’s Day, Saturday, March 17, at the Amsterdam Bar in downtown St. Paul.
This edition of the Mad Ripple will bring together a multitude of songwriters paying tribute to Slim, with songs written for the occasion, Slim covers, and songs we just hope he likes. I feel honored to be part of the event and look forward to sharing the stage with Jim, Joe Fahey, Jennifer Markey, and Katy Vernon. Our set starts around 10:45, but come early (music starts at 8:00 pm!) and stay late for will surely be an amazing evening.
More details on the show are at the Facebook Event Page, at the Current Blog and at CityPages.
Bonus good news:
We’re delighted to hear that KFAI in Minneapolis will record the Mad Ripple St. Paddy’s Day Hoot for Slim to be broadcast on April 9th. Details on the broadcast will be here http://www.kfai.org/.
