Uptown Bar – Ladies Night

This schedule gives you a pretty good idea of just how great the local talent was in the Twin Cities back in 1992 – and what a great job Maggie at the Uptown Bar did of appealing to every taste. Luckily she was able to squeeze in the Sycamores in during a week which already featured Freedy, Kevin Salem, Ray & Glover, and the Leatherwoods. The Freedy/Kevin show was a songwriter’s dream. And in case you weren’t there, the Leatherwood shows during this stretch were truly awe inspiring: Brilliant pop originals with great guitar hooks and vocal harmonies. Then Tim O’Reagan would belt out Roy Head’s “Treat Her Right” and blow everyone away. In the middle of soaking in great music from every direction, The Sycamores held down the ladies night chores with the touring Pedal Jets. Each band might have one gig there a month, but if they were like us, attended 2-3 shows per week! I’m pretty sure that’s how this great music scene sustained itself.
